‘If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism’, says Dr Stephen Shore, a renowned autistic professor of special education at the university of Adelphi.
At Brighter Living we recognise that autism looks different in everyone, so we provide support that is uniquely tailored to the individual.
There is considerable variation in the type and severity of symptoms experienced by people with autism, hence the term ‘spectrum.’
Brighter Living supports individuals with a range of autistic needs, from those who are able to live relatively independent lives to those whose autism is more pronounced or who may also have accompanying learning disabilities or mental health conditions.
Our focus is on fostering self-confidence and independence by helping autistic people to access their strengths and interests. To provide the best support, we collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, such as Phycology, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language who also know the individual.
We then tailor our support by providing staff with specialist training in key areas to meet each individual’s unique needs.
Once we have put support in place, we will review the outcomes, tweaking the support as necessary so that the individual can continue to grow and thrive and move towards more independent living.
As a company, we fully embrace the PBS approach, which means understanding behaviour rather than reacting to behaviour. At Brighter Living, we are fortunate that we have an in-house PBSP (Positive Behavioural Support Practitioner) who can offer specialist positive behavioural support. By understanding and addressing the reasons behind different behaviours, we can support people to overcome certain challenges, helping them to improve their quality of life.
Doing whatever it takes to bring you peace of mind
