Around 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability but that doesn’t mean they have the same support needs. At Brighter Living, we celebrate people as individuals, and work with each person to put a unique support network in place that will help them reach their potential safely and with dignity.

Freedom to choose
Our goal is for adults with learning disabilities to be as independent as possible. We want to help people lead a safe and happy life and that starts with having the freedom to choose how to live.
To do this, we work alongside individuals and their families, as well as professionals, taking everyone’s wishes into account. We then build a bespoke framework of support around the individual that is designed to help them become more independent, to grow in confidence, and to live a life full of possibilities.
How do we support people with learning disabilities?
We take a holistic approach to support and follow Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) practices. Before recommending and putting support in place, we always take the time to understand a person’s history, personality, preferences and physical health.
Sometimes, people with a learning disability will also have additional physical, mental or emotional needs. We make sure we have the right teams in place for each individual to feel supported in the areas they need.
Whether this is through supported living or a confidence boost making friends whilst out and about, the support we offer comes down to that person’s individual wants and needs.
As a company, we fully embrace the PBS approach, which means understanding behaviour rather than reacting to behaviour. At Brighter Living, we are fortunate that we have an in-house PBSP (Positive Behavioural Support Practitioner) who can offer specialist positive behavioural support. By understanding and addressing the reasons behind different behaviours, we can support people to overcome certain challenges, helping them to improve their quality of life.
