Pedro's story
Pedro continues to thrive in his supported living, showcasing his love for dancing, music, and impeccable fashion sense. He's always up for a party, bringing joy and energy to his Brighter Living home.

Pedro, our lively 26-year-old tenant, transitioned from residential care to supported living at Brighter Living Care. Throughout the day, he enjoys 2:1 support and 1:1 wake night support with a shared sleep-in, ensuring he feels safe and secure. Since joining us, Pedro has had a dedicated core team, carefully chosen and trained to meet his specific needs. We plan their schedules six weeks in advance, using a rotation system to maintain consistency. To add an extra layer of support, we’ve established a nearby ‘buddy’ house with trained staff, just a 2- minute drive away. This ensures Pedro has access to the same high-quality care even during staff sickness or annual leave. All our staff, including those at the buddy house, are trained to NAPPI level 2, and they undergo updated autism training following Oliver McGowan guidelines.
Like many tenants at Brighter Living Care, Pedro faces challenges in social interactions. He may display inappropriate behaviours, but our team is equipped to handle these situations with care and understanding. Pedro leads a vibrant life, actively participating in enjoyable activities. Our holistic approach to care, centred on encouraging and celebrating independence, has had a positive impact. Since moving to his shared house, Pedro has not required PRN or physical intervention. He’s currently on the lookout for job opportunities, aiming to acquire skills for voluntary work and future employment. Regular meetings with Pedro’s parents keep us informed about any changes that could affect his routine or lifestyle, contributing to the positive care environment we provide. The recent care reviews were positive, and Pedro continues to thrive in his supported living, showcasing his love for dancing, music, and impeccable fashion sense. He’s always up for a party, bringing joy and energy to his Brighter Living home.
